Camera Tracking Troubleshooting

Fix Camera Tracking Problems

If Apex cannot detect you or misses repetitions, the cause is usually camera permission, phone placement, lighting, or movement outside the frame.

Camera access is denied

If the camera does not open:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.

  2. Find and select Apex.

  3. Turn on Camera.

  4. Return to Apex and start the workout again.

If Apex is not listed under camera permissions, open the workout flow again so iOS can display the permission request.

Apex cannot detect you

Try the following:

  • Place the phone at floor level with a clear side view.

  • Move far enough away for your head and upper-body movement to remain in frame.

  • Increase the room lighting.

  • Avoid bright windows or lights directly behind you.

  • Remove objects between you and the camera.

  • Make sure no other face is visible in the camera view.

  • Clean the camera lens.

After adjusting the setup, return to the starting position and wait for the on-screen confirmation.

Repetitions are missed

For more consistent counting:

  • use a steady, controlled pace;

  • complete the full movement for each repetition;

  • keep your body in approximately the same workout area;

  • avoid turning your face away from the camera for long periods; and

  • make sure the phone does not move during the set.

If a repetition is still missed, continue safely. The counter is a training aid and should not determine your form or physical limits.

Detection stops during a set

  1. Pause the workout when safe.

  2. Check the camera preview and return fully into frame.

  3. Restore the original phone angle if the device moved.

  4. Improve the lighting if conditions changed.

  5. Resume the workout after Apex detects you again.

The camera view is dark or frozen

  • Check that nothing covers the lens.

  • Close and reopen the workout screen.

  • Confirm that another app is not actively using the camera.

  • Close and reopen Apex if the issue continues.

  • Restart your iPhone if the camera remains unavailable.

Still having trouble?

Record the iPhone model, iOS version, Apex version, and a short description of what happened. Do not send workout photos or videos unless support specifically asks for them and you are comfortable doing so.
